A few Paralympic highlights 🌠

According to a survey by Parity, Paralympic fans are driven by female athletes β€” with more fans planning to tune in this year. But, a lack of awareness of athletes' stories is still limiting the Games growth potential.

Here were some of the athletes who have wow'd us so far:

πŸ₯‡πŸ₯‡Oksana Masters is officially the GOAT 🐐 After missing out on a medal in the sitting biathlon, she took her 11th Paralympic gold medal with a win the cross-country sitting sprint. It's also her 21st Paralympic medal overall. TWENTY-ONE MEDALS!!

πŸ‚ A legend of the sport, 51-year-old Cecile Hernandez took gold in the snowboard cross with her 18-year-old daughter in the crowd.

🎿 Audrey Pascual Seco won Spain's first gold medal in the Winter Paralympics in 12 years, and then followed it with another gold in alpine sit skiing. If you haven't watched her run, check it out.

🀝 While sled hockey is technically co-ed, there have been only three women in the history of the Paralympics. This year, there are now TWO!

Make sure you don't miss these events still coming this week:

March 14: πŸ₯Œ Wheelchair curling – New this Paralympics is mixed doubles wheelchair curling

March 15: ❄️ Cross-Country ski – The longest race (20km) is competed with interval time trial starts. That means it’s not whoever is first across the line, it’s whoever goes the fastest.

πŸ“Ί How to watch: In the U.S. it’s on Peacock + USA (on TV) during the week and NBC on weekends. See the full schedule here. In Canada it’s on CBC. See the list of global broadcasters here.

The business side: What is going on with the WNBA negotiations? πŸ€

The March 10th league-imposed deadline to reach an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement has come and gone. Will the 2026 season be delayed? Possibly.

Both sides met last night for a marathon overnight negotiating session.

The main dispute comes over how to share revenue: The league is offering 50% of net revenue (revenue after expenses) β€” which, reportedly, amounts to less than 15% of gross revenue (revenue before expenses). The players association, however, is asking for 26% of gross revenue β€” which is a decrease from where they started at 40% and far less than the ~50% the men get.

Reportedly, the players are not OK with the league's proposal. But whether they'll strike is a point of contention. Will the fight slow the WNBA's momentum?

πŸ€ Meanwhile: Unrivaled β€” the 3v3 off-season league β€” said it generated $45 million in revenue

Tip of the week

Did you know that weight-lifting injuries in the gym are not generally correlated with "poor" form β€” even though that's what we're all so worried about. They're actually correlated with rapid load increases. Basically, the problem isn't how you're lifting the weight; it's that you're lifting too much too quickly.

The highlight reel

  • ⚽ The U.S. won their 8th SheBelieves Cup with a goal from Alyssa Thompson over Colombia.

  • ⚽ The Asian Cup moves to quarter-finals later this week. However, the Iranian women's team was eliminated from the tournament, which began before the U.S. launched its war against Iran, and a number of the team members are now seeking asylum to stay in Australia due to concerns about their safety after they chose not to sing the national anthem before one of their games.

  • πŸƒπŸΎβ€β™€οΈ With temperatures in Los Angeles climbing into the high 80s later in the day, due to a sudden heat wave, marathon organizers also announced a controversial plan to allow athletes to claim a finisher's medal even if they felt the need to cut the race short at mile 18 (when the route passes near the finish line).

  • πŸƒπŸΎβ€β™€οΈ An update on the athletes led off-course at the USA Half-Marathon National Championships: Race organizers said they'd award additional prize money to the three athletes, and USATF is appealing with World Athletics to adjust their team lineup for the world championships.
