"Skateboarding is 100% as much for girls as it is for boys.”
- Patti McGee, the first pro female skateboarder, told Skateboarding Magazine in 1965. McGee, a pioneer, died last week.

Three big stories to know this week in women's sports
1. Dramatic, exciting, and record-setting WNBA Final: Women's basketball isn't slowing down 🔥
The story goes that in middle school Sabrina Ionescu was told she couldn't play on the boys team and should be playing with dolls. So, instead, she went out and recruited enough girls for a girls team. At Oregon, she helped set attendance records. Then she was picked first in the WNBA draft by the New York Liberty. And on Sunday, the team won its very first championship.
🏀
That win was also thanks to MVP Jonquel Jones' brilliant game & some controversial calls in the final minutes.
But one thing was undisputed: The whole Lynx-Liberty Finals series was unmatched! (How many 15-point deficits can a team come back from?! How many buzzer beaters can we have??) And both attendance and viewership were at record highs. Liberty owner Clara Wu Tsai:
"When we bought the team four years ago, they were playing at Westchester County Center to a crowd of 2,000. And the first thing we wanted to do was bring the team to Barclays Center so that they could have a bigger stage. And then we wanted to give them facilities and performance and nutrition and everything that they deserved, because they’re such elite professional athletes.”

What's next? Unrivaled!
Unrivaled, a 3x3 league founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart (who yes, went head-to-head this past weekend), starts play on Jan. 17, 2025 🏀🏀🏀
Six teams of five players — with some of the biggest names signed on — will play a shortened season. Founding members have equity in the league + athletes are being paid $100K on average. Plus, there'll be a one-on-one $250,000 tournament to determine the best player in the world.
And last week it was announced, the league had signed a broadcast deal with TNT to air games 2x/week. Queue up your TV!
2. Cassandre Beaugrand wins Olympics & World Championships in the same summer 🥇🥇 |

Until this weekend, only one woman (Flora Duffy) had pulled off the triathlon double: an Olympics gold and a World Triathlon world championship in the same year. Now you can add Cassandre Beaugrand 🇫🇷 to that list!
Despite a wrong turn on the swim and an appeal from the British federation at Saturday's race in Spain, Beaugrand won both the Championship Finals race *and* the overall series crown 👑
The rest of the races
The elite championship finals were part of a multi-day festival with world champions crowned in each age-group, in the U23 and juniors races, in the mixed relay, and in the para-triathlon championships.
**Two athletes, however, died during the age-group races on Saturday — one in the swim and one on the run**
3. PWHL season two starts Nov. 30 🏒
Just six weeks before the first puck is set to drop, the Pro Women's Hockey League finally announced the expanded schedule for its second season.
Each of the league's six teams will play 30 games — with more potential neutral locations or partnering with NHL arenas, like the league did last year for sell-out crowds.
In its record-setting first season, the teams also lacked real names, logos, or mascots. Now we finally have some teams to get behind!
⚓️ Boston Fleet 🛡 Montréal Victoire 🔥 Ottawa Charge 🥶 Minnesota Frost 🧜♀️ New York Sirens 🔱 Toronto Sceptres
And don't piss off women's hockey fans: The roll-out ad campaign last week for the new Boston NWSL team — called BOS Nation FC — was criticized for many things: transphobia, outdated branding around men's ball sports (and lots of puns about balls that maybe didn't make sense for a soccer team...), but also for forgetting the other Boston women's sports teams (!). PWHL Boston fans were not happy 😠

Tip of the week
45% of us are experiencing "wellbeing burnout" — ie. we're exhausted from all the various pressures and directives to optimize our wellness. But despite all this pressure, our actual wellbeing hasn't improved over the last four years.
This is according to a global report commissioned by Lululemon that surveyed 16,000 people to understand trends in our physical, mental, and social wellbeing.
Some of the issues: unrealistic social expectations, conflicting information, and a feeling of loneliness. One thing that can help with that last one? Don't go it alone! Do what sounds fun to you and do it with other people 👭

The highlight reel
Essential amino acids are necessary building blocks in our body for protein synthesis and muscle repair. To aid with that process, Amino Co. developed a HEAL blend of amino acids and nutrients that was originally created to help NASA astronauts maintain muscle mass in space — and has since been adjusted for everyday people needing a little extra recovery and muscle repair, regenerating tissue and maintaining healthy levels of inflammation.
The science and research that goes into Amino Co's HEAL, PEFORM, and LIFE products is why it's our go-to amino acid supplement. Try it out and get 30% off with the code THEFEIST at aminoco.com 💪
