Hi ,
Welcome to our More Women More Miles program. I thought we'd have about 40 women sign up and over 300 of you signed up!
We'll be getting you more information on content and dates next month with all of our content kicking off in January but for now, I wanted to send you a few quick things.
Tomorrow the UNBOUND lottery will be announced. I know that not everyone who signed up is planning to do UNBOUND, so if you're not just skip to the end of this email for your first More Women, More Miles discount code :)
There's a very good chance that you'll get into UNBOUND (😉) and then you're going to start thinking about logistics. Here are some insider tips:
Housing is a bit of a pain in Emporia - I scanned Airbnb today and not much is available BUT I think some people are holding on to housing in case they get in. I'd look right away tomorrow to see if anything opens. If you can get something refundable, grab it. We'll create a space where you can find people who want to share. Also check hotels.
If you're into camping, the fairgrounds will have spots. They are close to the start line in a great location. I know some people rented campers or vans in the past to stay there (ideally you want AC bc it's hot and I guarantee thunderstorms that time of year in Kansas).
Dorms are a great option and include a meal plan. I'm not sure on the cancellation policy so check into it when you book. UNBOUND will send the info out about these.
There are also private rentals that happen and I'll do my best to help connect those. These are people's homes that you'll be in just for the event and you should plan on some sticker shock. Again, we'll help facilitate connections.
I always fly into Kansas City. It's about a 2 hour drive so you'll want to plan on that. You can also look at Topeka or Oklahoma City as options (also will require some driving). A lot of people come into Kansas City for this event so again, it's better to rent cars that you can cancel early. It's almost always easy to find a connection to share a car with because so many people fly into KC
I recommend planning to be in town by Thursday and leaving Sunday (maybe Monday if you're doing the 200). I always take an afternoon flight on Sunday. Fun things start happening in the expo on Thursday afternoon.
A lot of people also drive in. You don't necessarily need a car once you get to Emporia. Most people even ride to the start and home from the finish but if you'll have someone supporting you on the course, you will want to have a vehicle. Paid support also works well and I know a lot of people who use it. You just drop your bags and they are in a designated spot at the support towns.
I think the biggest advice I would give is make reservations early with cancellation policies if possible. That will allow you to adjust but not feel stressed about not having a space. Also, I've found housing 3 weeks out in the past because people drop out or some local decides they want to make some money! Don't get overwhelmed.
Okay, onto the discount. Girls Gone Gravel is a part of Feisty Media. One of the things we do is create educational content for active women, including courses. Every year at this time, we run a course called Strong. It's includes a 16-week progressive strength training program, educational content on mindset, life stages, nutrition to support your strength training, injury prevention and more. We do 2 months of a supported community where you get feedback, get to connect with experts and stay motivated. We're giving you 25% off by using the code MOREWOMENMOREMILES at checkout.
