🇫🇷 From the ground in Paris
With 66,000 fans in attendance during pool play, it was a new record for a women's rugby event. And we can confirm the medal matches were absolutely epic in person. Thousands of people screamed, booed, cheered.
WATCH: With no time left on the clock and down by 5 points in the bronze medal match, Alex Sedrick got the ball with a wide open field and took off — scoring and then converting for the extra two points. And, suddenly, the U.S. had won its first ever Olympic medal (men or women) 🏉
What is rugby sevens?
A faster, smaller version of standard rugby union, rugby sevens is what's played in the Olympics: Seven players (instead of 15) playing just seven-minute halves. It's quick and exciting. It's non-stop-action and we HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Will athletes get to swim in the Seine? 💩
This morning, we woke up to a text message: The men's triathlon has been rescheduled to tomorrow right after the women's race!
WOMEN: 8:00 a.m.
MEN: 10:45 a.m.
Fingers crossed 🤞
We talk about it all on today's Croissants & Commentary: Live from Paris podcast — but in short: Bacteria levels in the Seine have been dropping since heavy rain on Friday/Saturday and were below European regulatory limits in some spots but still too high in other spots. The belief is that this will continue to improve — but with storms on the way potentially Wednesday night, the best shot is tomorrow.
(Why does rain make the bacteria in the river worse? We explained.)
Here's a picture of us checking out the river:
