A few Olympic questions, controversies, and wild stories you need to care about as much as we do
Now, we're getting into some of the key Milan stories to know about and a few hot (cold) topics. No Olympics is the Olympics without a little bit of controversy!
Will Lindsey Vonn be able to race? She says yes 💜 After tearing her ACL in a crash this past weekend, the 41-year-old legend told reporters her knee isn't swollen, it doesn't hurt, and she's going to give the Olympics downhill race this Sunday everything she's got because you only get so many opportunities.
Why do women still not get to compete in Nordic Combined?! Is the answer just "institutionalized sexism?"
Good thing the women of cross-country skiing are finally getting to race all the same events as the men, including the 50km for the first time in the Olympics. Could this be the perfect medal moment for the best American skier in history (and the current #1) to go out on in her final Games?
Why are Canada & the U.S. skeleton teams fighting? Because Katie Uhlaender, in her bid to make a sixth team, needed a certain number of points — but in the final race of the season Canada pulled athletes out at the last minute, dropping the number of total points available for the win. She filed a complaint, it was dismissed, but Canada says they were just resting athletes ahead of the Games. Whew!
Is the U.S. SkiMo team's come-from-behind-to-qualify story still one of the craziest stories we've ever heard? Probably!
Shoutout to Tallulah Proulx, the first woman to represent the Philippines at the Winter Games 🇵🇭
And shoutout to two of the best bobsledders at the Olympics, who are back at the Games with their kids in tow 👶 Elana Meyers Taylor was also one of the recipients of a grant from For All Mothers to help her bring her kids with her.
With anti-American sentiment high (and high even within the U.S.) how will U.S. athletes use the global platform? Some athletes are speaking out and security at the Games has increased — though that includes ICE agents assisting with security, despite protests in Italy.
Plus, with Olympic venues more geographically spread out than any previous Games, organizers are also rushing to finish the hockey arena.
